Why powder brows?

Using cosmetics such as eyebrow gel, pencil, or powder is one way to fix this. However, it is often difficult to choose the right colour or make the right shape and it is very time-consuming. Not to mention that you can’t swim or go to the sauna with it, and on Dutch rainy days it’s questionable whether it’s still good.

What are powder brows?

Powder brow is a semi-permanent tattooing technique that pigments the eyebrows from light to dark. This creates a powder ombre effect. The result is semi-permanent and provides full and beautifully coloured eyebrows.

Many people prefer this method because of its soft and natural appearance, wide range of uses, and its less invasive nature as microblading. With powder brows, the base of the eyebrow is slightly shaded and darkens towards the end. This subtle overflow creates a soft and natural effect.

The pigment is put into the 1st skin layer, other techniques such as scratches in the skin as with microblading are put in the 3rd skin layer. Because microblading goes so deep, it often causes more irreversible damage such as scar tissue, which means you run the risk of the lines ‘leaking’ and as a result, the thin applied hairlines become thick and do not dissolve. These problems can only be solved with multiple laser treatments to dissolve the pigment and microneedling to tackle the scars.

How long do powder brows last?

Colour fades on average after 12 to 18 months after the first treatment and 24 months after the second “refresh” treatment. It depends on external factors such as skin type, age, and lifestyle. With oily skin, the colour fades less quickly and when you spend a lot of time in the sun, this is faster. Aft   er a year and a half, we recommend a “refresher” treatment.

Powder brows are therefore very suitable for those who previously opted for microblading and are now looking for a long-lasting result with less trauma to the skin.

What causes thin eyebrows?

When you look in the mirror, you may notice that your eyebrows are not as full or thinner as they used to be. There are many reasons that cause us to lose the hair of our eyebrows, such as:

  • Hormonal changes
  • Genetics
  • Years of over-picking and removal
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Normal aging of the hair follicles

Do you already have PMU eyebrows but you are not too peaceful?

It is possible that you have had your brows placed by another PMU artist. Has this been there for a long time, is the colour ashy or is the shape not the way you want? In this case, it is necessary to first have a course of treatment with the laser, possibly also microneedling treatments. How many treatments are needed differs per person and depends on how deep the ink is and what kind of ink is used. On average, it is 3 to 5 treatments with an interval of 8 weeks, where we can place the new eyebrows 6-8 weeks after the last treatment.

For which skin types does the treatment work better?

Powder brows are done with a tattoo method. However, because we place the tattoo superficially, there is less damage to the skin, which means that it is applicable to all skin types.

Microblading is not recommended for people with a combination/oily skin type. If you do choose to do this, there is a greater chance that the ink will remain little or not at all in the skin and there is a chance that scar tissue will remain in the form of hair strokes

Pre-appointment instructions

Intake

During the intake, specific wishes such as colour and shape can be discussed with our certified practitioners and a brow mapping (for drawing the eyebrows) is done. If necessary, bring sample photos of what you would like the eyebrows to look like, but don’t forget to have a realistic expectation.

When we can’t treat

Unfortunately, there are circumstances that make it impossible for us to treat the eyebrows. Below you will find when this is the case:

  • For scars less than a year old
  • In pregnant women
  • If you have treated your eyebrows with laser/PMU in the last three months
  • Within 2 months after Botox placement
  • When taking blood thinners
  • If you have diabetes
  • In case of haemophilia
  • During chemotherapy
  • For chronic skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis
  • In case of an immune disorder
  • In case of cardiovascular abnormalities
  • When using Roaccutane
  • If you have an allergy to pigments or other materials used to apply PMU (we can test this before the treatment).
